Bishop Derek T. Triplett draws on John 2:5 and the wedding at Cana to call for obedience without conditions. Mary brings the need to Jesus and tells the servants to do whatever he says. Contrasting the ballroom with the back room, the message emphasizes relationship with Jesus, intercession, humility and willingness to serve even when the work receives no public recognition.
Obedience may require doing as much or as little as God directs, including ordinary tasks that bless someone else. The servants pour the water; Jesus performs the miracle. The closing challenge is to remain a servant, wait for God to speak, and resist substituting our own answers for his direction.
