Be Bold

Bold Preparations

Sunday, January 18, 20269am
📖 Joshua 3
This sermon pushes the Be Bold theme into practical readiness. In Joshua 3, Israel is told to get ready before the river parts, and the church is challenged to treat preparation as proof of expectation by managing time, trauma, and thought with the seriousness of people who actually believe God is about to move.
Key Points
1.
Preparation is proof that you expect God to move, not just proof that you like the idea of moving.
2.
If the crossing is close, time cannot be treated casually because readiness is part of obedience.
3.
Trauma may be real, but it cannot remain the leading voice in your life if you intend to cross into promise.
4.
Possession requires a new way of thinking, because people cannot steward what they still believe they are unfit to hold.
5.
Faith prepares before the miracle arrives.

Sermon Summary

Get Your Provisions Ready

Joshua's instruction to the people is simple but demanding: get your provisions ready. That becomes the controlling image for the sermon. If God has spoken about what is next, then waiting passively is not faith. Bold people begin putting themselves in order before the visible breakthrough arrives.

Time Management Is Spiritual Preparation

The message treats time as a stewardship issue. Delayed obedience, casual decision-making, and wasting the day are exposed as evidence that a person may not really expect God to move. Preparation requires urgency. If the crossing is ahead, then every day before it matters.

Trauma Cannot Keep Leading The Conversation

Another major movement in the sermon confronts trauma directly. Past pain, disappointment, and fear may be real, but they cannot become the commanding voice of the future. The congregation is urged to stop letting old wounds narrate new moments and to trust God enough to move toward the Jordan anyway.

Possession Requires A New Mindset

Bishop Hill also frames the crossing as an identity shift. Israel has a history shaped by slavery, and enslaved thinking does not naturally know how to possess. That becomes a challenge to the church: if God is making you a possessor, owner, and leader, your thinking has to rise to match what he's placing in your hand.

Faith Prepares Before The Miracle

The sermon closes by bringing all three areas together. Bold preparation means managing time, managing trauma, and managing thoughts so that when God opens the way, you are ready to move. The issue is not whether God is serious about blessing you. The issue is whether you are serious enough to prepare for what he said.

Is your love for God bold enough to shape your life? Bold love lives in God's love daily — not visiting it occasionally. Perfect love drives out fear, and our love for God is a grateful response, not a payment plan.

This sermon reframes boldness through the story of Jael. When the decisive moment arrived, she did not wait on a better option, a different person, or more impressive tools. She moved with courage, used what was already in her hand, and proved that faith is never passive.
